Fear: Outcast

For the prompt entry of Fear, featuring Zartan and SA1B0T's Amalthea!

Zartan had never been in this part of the woods before, and he lost no time investigating the ground for interesting things. And so he strolled for a while, quietly enjoying this lonely place. Until his hoof suddenly sunk down under him unto some hole he hadn't noticed, and he fell down. Annoyed, he tried to stand up. It hurt. His leg felt sore. He clenched his teeth together as he carefully tried to pull his leg out.

"Are you okay?"

Zartan didn't even realise that voice must have come from someone else at first, and wasn't really determined to show his problems to a stranger, especially not now that the pain made him angry. "Yea-" he turned his face to the stranger only to find out it was a pale white Minkin. Apart from the opals and opalesque horns and hooves, she was lacking of colour. At her feet the grass began to wilt away.

Zartan didn't say a thing, he simply pulled his leg back and started to move away in a hasty, yet somewhat crippled, trot. His leg throbbed at every contact with the ground, and it fueled his anger. Why couldn't that thing just let him be. Why couldn't she just hide herself so he wouldn't have to bother walking. But no! She wanted to check up on him? What for? He wasn't going to associate with that! What if someone would see him and think he was friends with someone like... that?

To his annoyance, he noticed she was, hestatingly but surely, following him. His frustrations and anxiety hit a climax as he turned his head at her and spat the words out.

"Go away!"

He ran on, without a word. He didn't even look back, not to see how the dull Minkin quit walking and stood there with a look in his eyes Zartan would probably know too well. He didn't want to see it. Didn't care to see it in this Minkin, either. It was each to their own, and so he would mind his business only.

Hmmm, not particularly fond of how this turned out (I coldn't make a decent background to save my life, sob) but oh well, it's something!
Oh and, for those not too familiar with the Minkin world, Zartan is not being an asshole in here for the sake of being an asshole. It's part of the Minkin lore that the dull ones causing plants to die are the outcasts, because they undo the hard work of other Minkin who try and repair the damage their world has suffered. Zartan himself often has problems socializing, so he does not wish to associate with the dull Minkin at all because he fears to become associated with them.
